![]() ![]() MS Word was no doubt what they learned in school. All of the other students that “hated” WordPerfect switched to MS Word mode and were happy campers. When I had a summer job at a big law firm, they used WordPerfect 12 (I think–it could have been 11). If you don’t like the interface, you can always switch to MS Word mode in the workspace manager. Frankly, to me, WordPerfect’s help file sucks (and the “HTML Help” in WordPerfect X3 isn’t much better than the older help files), but it’s not too big of a deal for me because I don’t use it often. I find myself reaching for the help files a lot in MS Word and OO.o, but very seldom in WordPerfect. To me, it seems everything in WordPerfect is presented very intuitively and works exactly like you’d expect it to–but that could be because I was “raised” on WP. ![]() Sure, you can do that in other word processors, but it’s a lot easier and more intuitive in WordPerfect. “Make it Fit” and “Keep Text Together” are probably my next favorite features. I pretty much could not use MS Word until they introduced that reveal-codes-like feature in Word XP. WP on Windows has the best automatic text kerning I’ve seen in a word processor (although it looks nasty on screen at first, until you get used to it). We actually learned WP instead of MS Word.) Hell, I still fire up WP 5.1 DOS when I want to get some “real” work done, namely creative writing. (And I’m only 21 years old we used it in elementary, middle, and high school. If somebody would come along and make a better WordPerfect (including Reveal Codes) I would switch, but OpenOffice definitely isn’t it. According to the many reports I’ve read or heard it would take a complete rewrite of WordPerfect to have real Unicode support and Corel doesn’t have the man power to do it. Features have been clearly delineated, and potentially confusing names have been jettisoned. To its shame, McAfee's uninstallation process left a few Registry keys behind, too.įirst introduced in 2010, the unusual vertically oriented design is surprisingly easy to use. We also had problems when running other essential programs, such as a Web browser, while installing. While there are legitimate security and performance problems that can be created by running two competing suites simultaneously, this is the kind of trouble that is not acceptable from with a expensive security suite. If it can't find them, you'll have to reboot and reinstall McAfee. If that happens to you, it will attempt to find the offending remnants. The registration process was simple enough, but it also aggressively detects competing suites to the point where the slightest bit of Registry detritus will cause the installation to freak out. Installing McAfee was where our problems with the suite began. Meanwhile, the suite's performance on tests both from CNET Labs and independent sources calls into question how effective it really is. McAfee Total Protection 2012 adds some new features, but these are frankly more about keeping up with the Joneses-or at least, keeping up with the Nortons and Kasperskys-than actually pushing any kind of innovation. ![]() Since then, the annual updates have been incremental at best, improving the feature set yet not making substantial changes overall. McAfee released a major overhaul to its security suite back in 2010, coming up with a new vertically oriented interface that made navigating much easier. The bottom line: McAfee takes aim at blocking bots in its latest version, although weak test scores mean that we don't recommend this year's McAfee suite. ![]() ![]() Use three screws (steel roofing screws work well) to affix the tail to the nipple. ![]() After the fin is cut out, lay it on top of one of the 12-inch nipples and drill three pilot holes through the bottom of the tail fin and into the side of the nipple.
